Review :
a gem
I can only echo the other reviewers - this book is a gem. I even like it a little better than her earlier work, Energy Medicine, because it is more concise. Eden also cites books written recently with scientific backup for what subtle energies are and how they function. That helps me because although I know this stuff works, I also have the heart of a skeptic. As someone who is very dissatisfied with the way medicine is practiced here in the U.S. and who has come away from doctor's appointments feeling like something is missing, I believe this type of energy medicine is the wave of the future and is an extremely useful addition to, but not a substitute for, conventional medicine. It's too bad that so few conventionally trained doctors have jumped on the bandwagon.

Better than I Could Have Imagined
If someone had asked me if it were possible for Donna Eden to top "Energy
Medicine," I would have said "No way." And would I ever have been wrong.

My favorite aspect of her new book is something technical... with huge
implications that go beyond what is simply technical. When Donna describes
her experience reading auras, she writes about going all the way to the
level of that person's soul.

This is exactly the direction where my work has been developing over the past decade, which has caused me to feel counter-culture as an aura reader and writer. Well, counter-culture I may remain for a while but, now, not alone!

Donna's new book, written with the collaboration of the great Dr. David
Feinstein, had me hooked as soon as I saw her extraordinary photo on the
back cover. The photos throughout, the cover, and interior design of this
book are the most appealing I've seen in any book, improvements even over
"Energy...
WOW! THIS IS THE "OWNER'S MANUAL" FOR BECOMING A MORE HEALTHY, HAPPY, VIBRANT WOMAN!!!
Donna Eden is one of the foremost experts in Energy Medicine. Now she and her partner David Feinstein have collaborated on a fantastic new book: ENERGY MEDICINE FOR WOMEN. This book is an encyclopedia of simple energy exercises you can easily learn, and use in only a few minutes a day. You can learn how to be a vibrant, capable woman who knows how to work skillfully with the rhythms of your very own body.

AND THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE!!!

Unfortunately, Traditional Western Medicine has tended to ignore how much our hormones influence our Body, Mind & Spirit. I think the researchers decided that hormones were somehow just "too complicated." As a Psychologist, I work with a lot of clients who would prefer to find natural ways to support their mental and physical health, without taking drugs. Many of my clients would prefer NOT to go on antidepressants all month long, with their many side effects, just because they sometimes get depressed with PMS or...

Review :
With a little investment in time, this is a solid introduction to HIIT!
Before starting any of the exercises, there is a fitness assessment (based off of four exercises), and there are about 50 different routines provided that range from four to sixty minutes. There are some basic (succinct) explanations of steady-state vs. HIIT, afterburn, etc. Nutrition is covered in two pages. Accordingly, there are no recipes, but there are basic tips like keeping hydrated. The nice part is there really isn't any additional equipment required for the workouts. The equipment listed as required is footwear, a yoga mat, a watch, a towel, and a foam roller. Weights are mentioned as useful, but they are not mandatory. Goal setting and recovery (foam rolling) is briefly covered before stretches (pre- and post-workout are shown), and then there are exercises and routines until the end of the book. The biggest con is that the routines are covered in lists, so you have to flip to the back of the book to see a picture of the exercise if you don't know what it entails. Pictures...

A holistic health counselor and co-star of award-winning documentary Super Size Me explores women’s cravings—for food, sleep, sex, movement, companionship, inspiration—and teaches them to listen to their bodies for a healthier, fuller life.

Transformational health expert Alexandra Jamieson is a woman on a mission. Having overcome her own food addictions and the weight and health problems these habits caused, she learned something life-altering: when we listen to our cravings, they will lead us onto the path of deep healing. Since her own personal breakthrough more than a decade ago, Alexandra has dedicated her life to helping other women learn to listen to the wisdom of their cravings and make food their greatest ally as they step into their lives with authentic passion.

In this powerfully feminine manifesto, Alexandra dares us to face our cravings head-on, to make the self-commitment to no longer hide out behind food, self-loathing, or the limiting expectations of others. With love, deep compassion, and fearless honesty, she calls upon all of us to boldly use food as a tool to cleanse ourselves of the nutritional, emotional, physical, and mental blocks that limit our ability to live full, meaningful, and joyful lives.

In this book she’ll show us how:
· Our cravings are the gatekeepers of our deepest longings and desires
· Transforming habits set us free
· Detoxing unclutters our bodies and minds so we may engage in our lives with more power and authenticity
· Embracing our sexual selves makes us more powerful
· Trusting ourselves and surrounding ourselves with a nurturing community is essential for a vital, healthy, hot life

Review :
happy, and fulfilled this book is essential
Equal parts memoir, advice, and science "Women, Food, and Desire" delves deep into the complicated, and often conflicting, relationship between food, our bodies, and our purpose in life. While written from a woman's perspective, most of the information applies equally to both genders. This book will help men and women alike untangle our complicated relationship to dinner.

Men will also learn to see the subject of food more clearly from a woman's perspective, and learn how loaded the question "what shall we have for dinner" can be—and how attached it is to her self-worth and sexuality. If you want to help the women in your life to feel healthy, happy, and fulfilled this book is essential.

Finding the joy in eating
Finally - a book that actually gets to the heart of WHY we have such a f*cked up attitude towards food (well, I can only speak for myself - but it seems that it's not enough to know intellectually what things like sugar and gluten are doing to my system - that knowledge is common, but it's not changing my behavior one bit). This book is an exploration of why we have cravings, and invites you to explore deeper into your triggers and habits around food. (Ironically - my mother gave me a copy for Christmas, and it was wrapped up with a chocolate bar. Speaking of food as love!) I am finding a lot of useful insights in the book. It's not a checklist as all - it's part memoir, which I appreciate. I find that allows me to absorb the ideas as I read instead of turning to the "How-To" chapter and ignoring the lead up. It's funny - I've been on the fence about joining the gym again (something I promise myself I'll never do again until I do it) and last night I read these words...

This book has me seeing myself and habits with new eyes and I sense a real transformation on the horizon that has moved me to tears. Alexandra does what few people can: she actually shows you how to get to the root of your self-care challenges and transform them. Not through some weird, complicated diet, but through simple, wise and practical steps that speak to your soul's deepest yearning. For real! Get this book. It's about so much more than food. It's for your entire life.

With information on how to develop healthy meal plans, choose a sustainable exercise routine, relieve stress, address fertility issues, and find emotional support, this accessible, all-in-one guide will be your trusted companion to a better life.

Review :
Adequate book but too complicated
This book gives a very nice overview of PCOS and a concise description of the syndrome. However, the diet plan that she lays out is quite complicated. It involves EXTENSIVE counting of carbs and basically, relies on the glycemic index to determine what and when to eat. For the most part, it is correct but it was too much for me to follow, while trying to cook for a family. Basically, I took control of my PCOS by:

1. Cutting out grains and refined starches (sugar, breads, pastas)
2. Cutting out root veggies (potatoes, carrots, onions)
3. Increasing protein
4. Increasing water.

That's it. That's all there is to it. I even allow myself one small helping of "Carb laden" food a day and have steadily lost weight and increased my fertility.

Seven pound weight loss in just over a week!
I was first diagnosed with PCOS nearly 18 years ago. After feeling as if the medical community completely ignored the condition, I gave up trying to halt the dangerous effects of my diagnosis and simply watched my hair fall out, my weight increase, etc. I've been on medications to counter the effects for over ten years and saw little improvement in my symptoms. Then, two weeks ago, a friend loaned me a copy of this book. For the first time in a long time, I was interested in learning more. I thought I had read it all. Wrong. Not once in all of these years has a physician told me to watch my carbs and that simple timing of the necessary carbs I do eat could really make a difference. I feel like an idiot for not making the connection sooner but, well, here I am. I am only about 12 pounds overweight. Not too bad for someone with PCOS but it is disconcerting because I watch as my weight slowly inches upward, no matter what I do. I don't fry food. I eat fast-food occasionally but...
Very good book! A must read for women with PCOS! Updated info!
Very thorough and informative. From following the meal plan laid out in the book I have already lost 10lbs. in not even a week! This isn't just a "diet" book although it says on the cover. It helped me understand the syndrome. I have read two other very well written books about PCOS and this is right up there with them if not better. The author provides info on studies that are very recent about PCOS. I feel more comfortable about my condition. This book helped me feel empowered with the proper info and tools to tackle this condition. I highly recommend this book to anyone that has PCOS.

This kind of thing delivers surpass out prospect, this has developed into a great buy for me personally, The thought arrived properly and also speedily The New Rules of Lifting for Women: Lift Like a Man, Look Like a Goddess

In The New Rules of Lifting for Women, authors Lou Schuler, Cassandra Forsythe and Alwyn Cosgrove present a comprehensive strength, conditioning and nutrition plan destined to revolutionize the way women work out. All the latest studies prove that strength training, not aerobics, provides the key to losing fat and building a fit, strong body. This book refutes the misconception that women will "bulk up" if they lift heavy weights. Nonsense! It's tough enough for men to pack on muscle, and they have much more of the hormone necessary to build muscle: natural testosterone. Muscles need to be strengthened to achieve a lean, healthy look. Properly conditioned muscles increase metabolism and promote weight loss -- it's that simple. The program demands that women put down the "Barbie" weights, step away from the treadmill and begin a strength and conditioning regime for the natural athlete in every woman. The New Rules of Lifting for Women will change the way women see fitness, nutrition and their own bodies.

Review :
"New Rules" Rules
"Lift like a man, look like a Goddess" says the book. But is it true? I believe it is, and this book is right on the money. It is cleanly divided into three parts. The FIRST PART discusses the similarities between men's and women's bodies and why they should train the same. While women's muscles won't get as big as a man's from lifting weights, the stimulus to make a woman's muscle bigger and stronger is identical to that of a man's - overload the muscle with progressively heavier weights. PART TWO, "You aren't what you don't eat", is the eating/diet section of the book. Here you get a lot of nutrition info, such as calorie needs, protein intake, etc. and are introduced to the four "Ironclad Rules": eat breakfast, eat a total of 5 meals and snacks a day, have a post-workout recovery shake on the days you lift, and have more calories on workout days than the other days. Meal plans are nicely laid out for the reader. Lastly comes PART THREE, "Resistance is vital." This is the section...
Buy this book!
This book is written mainly by Lou Schuler, a journalist and strength and conditioning coach. Alwyn Cosgrove designs the workouts in the book and Cassandra Forsythe designs the meal plans and recipes. These are experts that I keep up with and respect very much so we're off to a good start.

WHO IS THIS BOOK FOR
This book says it's for anyone from beginners to experienced exercisers. I disagree that it's for all beginners. I think there is a lot to digest in this book and beginners might get frustrated and confused and end up putting the book down. However if you have the motivation I definitely think it's doable.

I'm not going to mention that they remind women they will not bulk up from lifting. I am so sick of this excuse from women and that we have to keep repeating it. Why are we still talking about this?? Is it not public knowledge now, even if you only read occasional fitness articles, that women will not bulk up like men if they lift like men...
Most successful book for me
New Rules of Lifting for Men was quite interesting, but I didn't do anything with it as it was so targeted at men. But I eagerly bought this new women's version, which is similar in some ways but overall is quite different and definitely targeted for women. I enjoyed Lou Schuler's witty writing style and offbeat humor, which made the information easier to digest and less dry. I read this entire book carefully front to back (important to do!!) and decided to implement co-writer Alwyn Cosgrove's workouts exactly as written and stick with it. One caveat: I think this book and its workouts is NOT for total beginners. In a way, you have to "arrive" at this book and the ideas it presents. I think if you were a newcomer to weight training you'd need some help with the exercises and proper form (particularly the squats and deadlifts, which must be done correctly to avoid injury). As a newcomer you would not have the frame of reference to appreciate the total brilliance of the...
