As a certified master auto and truck technician, I often refer my customers to this book for straightforward understandable explanations of the goings on under the hood. When my customer understands how a system operates, he or she is more willing to accept a diagnosis, because it makes sense and the black magic attitude is gone. The automotive encyclopedia has been available since the 70's and each addition is packed with the latest developments that the car manufactures employ to make cars more, fun, economical, and, necessarily, more complex. good investment

Much of what I learnt early on about cars comes from reading this excellent book. I still have my 1981 edition and after paging through the newer ones I see that it is still a great way to teach. If it doesnt go into as much detail as you like it will certainly point you in the right direction. My kid will definetly get a copy from santa.

Misleading discription

Very disappointed with this book. After reading reviews and description, I was of the understanding that this book was a good learning tool. As it turned out it was nothing more than a kind of study guide with only questions and without an answer key. I contacted the shipper to see if the wrong book was shipped and was told it was the correct book. I have searched for more reviews or comments and have seen one that states "for hardcover version". I can't imagine the hardcover being different from the paperback. Has anyone else had this problem.
