Well written books on welding are few and far between. Keeping a technical subject interesting and entertaining, while still being informative is an art in itself. Gerry Uttrachi is a master of that art in ADVANCED AUTOMOTIVE WELDING. The content of this book is possibly one of the best written and cogently assembled pieces of welding instruction that I've ever read.

I have literally dozens of books on welding that span a good 5 or 6 decades. Some of the better ones were written back in the 40's for training the wartime workers. It's amazing to me that it took over 60 years for a book to be published that is comprehensive and comprehendable, that explains in everyday language, the latest techniques in the welding arts and...

It effectively combines basic facts and techniques for welding with practical instructions for producing various types of welded joints. The illustrations and photographs showing step-by-step procedures are excellent and really give a feel for what the job requires. Common projects such as street rod roll bars, trailer hitches, floor pans, etc., are covered in detail and with spot-on accuracy. Thermal cutting, so often used on car projects, is also covered thoroughly, as are inspection, arc straightening and other tricks of the trade. This book should be in the library of every automotive enthusiast.

Excellent book! Very thorough explanation of all aspects of automotive heating and cooling. It says part 1 of a two-book series though, and I was not able to find the "shop manual".

Great Automotive A/C reference book
This Book comes in really handy. The only thing i dont like about the book is that its really repetitive. It has a tendency of repeating the same sentences with in the chapter. Other than that i would still recommend it.

Not your Dad's Air-conditioning book. Better!
I studied refrigeration systems in the early 70's but really didn't follow it has a career. Since I retired, I dabble a bit in repairs mostly for friends and people in need, to the limit of my equipment primarily.

I've found this book to be a good solid electrical and mechanical reference work with modern systems/control approaches as well. I highly recommend!

If you are not familiar with your Ford or mechanically inclined, this book will give you step by step directions and information on replacing and trouble shooting components. It gives breakdowns on preventive maintenance, torque specs, how-to, tools needed, etc. Very handy book for the DIY person.

Contents include: tune-up and routine maintenance, overhaul procedures for the V6 and V8 engines, cooling, heating, and air conditioning systems, fuel and exhaust systems, engine electrical system, emissions and engine control systems, automatic/manual transmission and transfer case, clutch and driveline, brakes, suspension and steering systems, body, chassis electrical system, and wiring diagrams.

I'm a bit disappointed. Sure it gives great detail on an engine overhaul, but how many people are actually doing that. What I needed was more detailed information on my 2003 Expedition's interior. Any information on the removal of the plastics, seats or center console was non-existent. My Expedition has rear heat and air, there were a couple photos but very little about it. Absolutely nothing about the extensive electrical of the Expeditions interior. And nothing at all about the rear electrical folding seats or the front power seats. To make it worse, my Expedition has rear disc brakes. The pics for it were very general and not of the Expeditions calipers of disc. It did show the correct parking brake set up though. It was more for pickups, but even then I thought it was lacking.

I'm not usually critical on most of my reviews, but this book, as thick as it is, should have more detail about the everyday stuff people deal with.

Basic Car care for intermediate Use
I purchased this book for my husband who has never been mechanically inclined. He finds the illustrations and step by step instructions very useful. Although we have had to seek out additional help from time to time, this manual has saved us hundreds of dollars in repair costs.

Another masterpiece
Once again, Tony Candela has written a book that has earned a place in my automotive reference library.

This book covers everything that most classic and muscle car guys will run into. Everything from adding courtesy lights (which most classic cars were not equipped with) to building a complete wire harness are covered in great detail with easy to follow steps and pictures. Some installation tips, such as how to properly route large cables into the interior of a vehicle, are just not found in other guides.

Although the main focus of this book is performance projects, the material that is covered can also be applied to nearly all aspects of automotive electronics installations. Adding circuits, performing voltage drop tests, and giving your vehicle a charging system evaluation (to name a few) are examples of the kinds of things that can be used outside of the performance world.

I teach Auto shop on the high school level in TN. I am always looking for differant books and materials that I can use in my class with my students. I have the first book in this series by Tony Candela. The first book was excellent, my students use this book in class. When I was at the SEMA show 2011 I found this book at the SA book booth and had to have it. I have found that this book takes over where the first left off. I have my students use this book to add to their repertoire of electrical knowledge. I can't say enough about this book.

Performance upgrades made MUCH easier!
Tony Candela knocked it out of the park once again.

If you are like me, I am always a bit leery when I'm installing any sort of aftermarket upgrade to my car, be it a tach, oil, or temp gauge or something as simple as an electric fan. Just something about fiddling with the stock wiring sets me on edge. After reading Automotive Electrical Performance Projects most, if not all, of my concerns and reservations have been extinguished.

Tony starts things off fairly simple with lighting projects, such as upgrading the stock headlights to higher output ones and wiring/adding some interior lights. He even touches base with how to service some of stock components. Well documented schematics and diagrams combined with dozens of full color pictures make each project perfectly straight forward and concise.
